Friedbert Pflüger

State Secretary, Ministry of Defence of Germany (2005-2006)

Friedbert Pflüger is a State Secretary in the German Ministry of Defence. From 1990-2006, he was as a member of the German Parliament, as part of the Christian Democratic Union party. During his time in parliament, Dr. Pflüger was chairman of the Bundestag Committee on the Affairs of the European Union and the foreign policy spokesman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group. He was the CDU's mayoral candidate for the 2006 Berlin elections. Since stepping down from politics in 2010, Dr. Pflüger has been the Director of the European Centre for Energy and Resource Security at King's College London, where he also teaches. He studied political science, public and constitutional law and economics in Göttingen, Bonn and at Harvard, and is also a published author, best known for his 2004 work A New World War?: the Islamist Challenge to the West.
