Abdelsalam al-Majali

Prime Minister of Jordan (1993-95; 1997-98)

Abdelsalam al-Majali is a Jordanian physician and politician who served twice as the Prime Minister of Jordan, as well as Minister of State for Prime Ministerial affairs and Minister of Education. As Prime Minister, he signed the Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty in 1994, and has also sat on the Jordanian Senate. He is the current Chair of the Islamic World Academy of Science. Majali has a background in medicine, and graduated from both the Syrian University and the Royal College of Physicians in London. He was director of medical services for the Jordanian Armed Forces from 1960 to 1969, and subsequently served as Minister for Health. He was also a professor of medicine at the University of Jordan.
