Daniel Ioniţă

State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania

Daniel Ioniţă is a senior diplomat from Romania who currently serves as State Secretary for Strategic Affairs. He has served as head of NATO affairs at the Foreign Ministry, working on Romania's accession to NATO, as well as Ambassador to Norway from 2011-2015. He has also served as Director General for Strategic Affairs, where he coordinated all of the political and diplomatic activities carried out by Romania in NATO, OSCE, Council of Europe and the EU, especially in the area of Common Security and Defence Policy, dealing also with major issues like arms control, non-proliferation and security in the Black Sea region. An engineer by training, Ioniţă joined the diplomatic service in 1996 as an attaché, and graduated from courses at the National Defense College of Romania, the NATO College in Rome and the European Security and Defence College.
