Farida Allaghi

Libyan Ambassador to the EU

Farida Allaghi is the current Libyan ambassador to the European Union, a position she has held since 2015. From 1984 to 2000, she was director of the Woman and Child Division of the Arab Gulf Program, and served as the general coordinator for the Arab Network for Civil Society from 1990 to 1997, in addition to several other high-profile appointments. She also worked as an independent human rights, democracy and civil society consultant. Additionally, Dr. Allaghi serves on the International Advisory Committee for the Johns Hopkins Comparative Nonprofit Sector Project, a research initiative that documents, analyzes, and evaluates the scope, structures, financing and role of private, non-profit institutions at the international level. Dr. Allaghi received a PhD in Sociology, Planning, and Development from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, USA in 1980.
