Franco Frattini is an Italian politician who served as Foreign Minister of Italy from 2002-2004 and from 2008-2011. In between these two tenures he served as Vice President and European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security at the European Union. He has also served in several junior ministerial positions as well as Member of Parliament for the Forza Italia party. Currently, Frattini is President of the Italian Society for International Organisation (SIOI), an international non-profit, and was previously a candidate for Secretary-General of NATO. He is also a member of the Italian Council of State. From 1984 he was State Attorney and magistrate of the Regional Administrative Court in Piedmont, after graduating in law.
