Mirko Cvetković is a Serbian politician who was Prime Minister of Serbia from 2008-2012. Previously a Finance Minister, his time in office was defined by closer ties with the European Union and a drive against crime and corruption. Cvetković is seen by many as an expert in economics and a man of compromise with respect across the political spectrum. In the 1980s he was external consultant for the World Bank on a number of projects in Pakistan, India and Turkey, and worked with the United Nations Development Programme in Somalia. As of 2013, he has resumed his work with the World Bank as a consultant. Cvetković graduated from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Economics where he also received his MComm and PhD. He is a keen musician as well as a published economic theorist.
