Peter Semneby is a Swedish diplomat and Sweden's current ambassador to Syria. He has worked extensively with the Caucasus both for Sweden and the OSCE, and was also the EU's Special Representative for the region from 2006-2011. Notably, he participated in relief work after the 1988 Armenian earthquake. He began his diplomatic career at Sweden's embassies in Moscow, Kyiv and Bonn, and led the Swedish Foreign Ministry's security policy department before becoming their ambassador to Afghanistan in 2012. He studied at Uppsala and Stockholm Universities in Sweden, as well as at Harvard.
